Kicking It Up a Notch

In the world of public relations, there are infinite ways to take our work to the next level, or as we like to say, “kick it up a notch.” With the creative freedom we have, there’s always a chance for us to take something great and turn it into something life-changing. Whether it’s a partnership introduction for a client, pitch idea, social media campaign or in-depth research—we are constantly strategizing on how we can reach new heights and make a long-lasting impact.

It’s also important for YOU, the reader, to identify growth opportunities within your own company and capitalize on being a vital asset to your team. Here are some tips on how to shake things up, reach your full potential and help take your company to the next level:

  1. Support your weaknesses. Everyone has an area that they struggle with. Since no two employees have all the same strengths and weaknesses, it’s important to find a sweet spot and balance one another out. In order to accelerate and rise to the occasion, find a colleague that excels in the area you want to improve on. A fresh perspective (or something as simple as a few tips and tricks) could be the key to overcoming a task or project you might be experiencing a challenge with.
  2. Let it go! Ask for help. In this industry it seems like I’m always learning on the job. I’ll be the first to admit there are particular parts that I’m not the best at (yet), but I know from experience that stepping out of your comfort zone and being open to new things is the best method for success. However, with more responsibility comes more uncertainty, so asking questions or seeking help from a coworker is necessary.
  3. Find your niche and OWN it. Do what you do now, but with a broader horizon. If you excel in a particular area, why not test the waters by expanding your outlook within that field? Research and brainstorm new ways to complement and leverage the work you’re already doing.
  4. Be curious. Try new methods, ask questions and be receptive to feedback. It’s also important to voice your interest and excitement about clients and projects; when your team starts to notice that you are genuinely interested and curious about their work, they’ll be more inclined to include you!
  5. Don’t get ahead of yourself. Remember that change doesn’t happen overnight. Improve on the little things first—and master them. Then you can take on the heavy stuff. Perfect the skills you have now, so you can truly embrace the full meaning of “kicking things up a notch.”

Are you feeling inspired? Ready for something new? Now is the time to show up in every way possible and capitalize on your full potential.
