San Leandro Improvement Association

The San Leandro Improvement Association (SLIA) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation that’s run by a board consisting of property owners, residents, community members and businesses. The SLIA’s board members advocate on behalf of the public’s benefit in the areas of public safety, beautification, economic development, maintenance and promotions, all while preserving and reviving the historic value of the San Leandro downtown district.

Olive successfully promotes Downtown San Leandro’s events at a regional level, while positioning the Downtown as a safe community, top place for families and young professionals to live in and a leading city in the East Bay. In addition to this, Olive educates the media and public on new improvements, projects and developments the San Leandro Improvement Association is supporting or completing to enhance its Downtown, all in an effort to build awareness about the community.

Olive began by developing a relatable and cohesive messaging for the community and media to understand what the SLIA is and showcase what it does. Media efforts focused on promoting major neighborhood events at a regional level to increase foot traffic in the downtown district and drive visitors to the area. To build awareness about the SLIA, Olive highlighted all projects, events, beautification efforts, partnerships, and improvements the organization stood behind. In addition, stories targeting the new developments in the community were strategically pitched to give the media and public examples of how the area was growing and becoming an attractive location.

Olive grew media exposure to position and validiate Downtown San Leandro as a safe, fun, family oriented downtown by securing regional media coverage that highlighted these community features:

  • Increased fundraising efforts at events through secured media coverage
  • Secured regional media coverage in SF Weekly, WHERE Magazine San Francisco, San Francisco Chronicle, San Francisco Examiner, Inside Bay Area, San Jose Mercury News, Oakland Magazine, The San Leandro Times, KTVU, KRON 4 and more
  • Established a functioning website for Downtown San Leandro by creating messaging and providing creative insight to make it informative and appealing for the community and users
  • Secured television segments multiple times on Bay Area news affiliates’ FOX, ABC, NBC Bay Area, and KRON 4
